Panathlon is an international movement founded in 1951 in Rapallo, Italy, with the guiding principle – and officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee – to culture and promote sports ethics.

The organization is committed to promoting the values ​​of sport as a means of personal development and education. The club’s motto is “Ludis Iungit,” which translates to “United through Sport.” On Thursday, Panathlon will also present an event in Carinthia at the University of Klagenfurt, which has already generated a lot of interest in advance. Not surprising, because there are many prominent speakers on the list of speakers, including Dr. Michael Weninger, former ambassador from Austria to Ukraine and member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Dr. Martin Poiger, President of the Austrian Judo Association and General Secretary of the European Judo Association, and Mag.

“Sports will make peace until there is war”

The current theme of the event is: “Sport creates peace until war – sanctions against athletes and sports associations due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine”. Panathlon Carinthia was founded in 2023 as the 492nd member of the international Panathlon movement. The chairman is the former federal minister and the well-known worker Prof. Michael Ausserwinkler. An amazing prize has already been awarded: the first Panathlon prize was awarded in the Carinthian state government’s Hall of Mirrors to SV Donau Klagenfurt/St. Ruprecht, a football club that is highly renowned for its excellent work in the field of integration and inclusion. The club is home to around 160 players from 34 countries, including countries such as Senegal, Bahamas, Japan, Syria and Afghanistan. The prize was awarded with 2,000 euros for the club’s youth work and an artwork by the artist Andrea Grossmann. The event at the university is open to the public and admission is free.
