A lot to work on, also in sports politics: The heads of the traffic light parties at the presentation of the joint coalition agreement in Berlin. (picture alliance / dpa)
The traffic light coalition wants to invest more in sports facilities of municipalities and clubs – taking into account sustainability, accessibility and inclusion. Swimming pools in particular should be given greater consideration in funding. The coalition partners have a particular focus on the pandemic and its consequences for popular sport.
Sport is still part of the Ministry of the Interior
Contrary to initial speculation, sport is not being outsourced from the Ministry of the Interior. Christine Lambrecht (SPD), who is under discussion as the new head of the interior department, is the new contact person for the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and its member organizations when it comes to sports issues that affect the federal government, especially top-class sport . According to the paper, an “independent authority for the allocation of funds and a transparency portal” should be set up here.
So that means: Sports funding should become more comprehensible. The potential analysis system (PotAS) is to be further developed with the aim of more effectiveness and less bureaucracy. The system evaluates the potential of the Olympic disciplines.
Center for Safe Sport – Support for athletes in Germany promised
The athletes can not only expect better framework conditions, but their rights of participation should also be strengthened through the permanent funding of the Athletes Germany Association.
The association is also heard with its concept for an independent center for safe sport: the new federal government wants to support the development and thus take action against physical, psychological and, above all, sexual violence in sport. Athleten Germany has already responded and thanked them for their support.
File “violent sports” should be scrutinized
In addition, a federal program against right-wing extremism and misanthropy in sport is to be launched. The coalition wants to reform the “Violent Sport” file with regard to the rule of law, deletion periods, transparency and data protection and strengthen the fan projects coordination office.
Human rights and UN guidelines as a standard for major events
A strategy paper for major sporting events was recently drawn up by the Ministry of the Interior and the DOSB, which met with a lot of criticism. The future governing parties are now announcing: “The awarding and hosting of major international sporting events should be strictly linked to compliance with the UN guidelines on business and human rights and sustainability.”
