“He is one of the most experienced coaches on the current Czech hockey scene. He was a clear choice for us, and when he expressed interest in continuing his work with us, we were understandably happy,” sports director Martin Ševc told the club’s website.
Part of the deal between the two sides is Kalous’ release for the World Junior Championships in late December and early January. Kalous will continue to have two assistants. So far it was Petr Haken and Václav Pletka. “We are currently finalizing the composition of the implementation team, including the head coach’s assistants, and we will inform you about it in the near future,” added Ševc.
Kalous took over the team when it was in eleventh place with 43 points from 35 games. Before that, they led the Skating Club in two duels after Čihák’s end of Haken with Pletka and gained three points thanks to one win. After the regular season, Mladá Boleslav finished tenth with 67 points from 52 games.
In the preliminary round of the playoffs, Středočesi and Kometa Brno were eliminated after a 1:3 defeat for the matches. They did not follow up on their participation in the semi-finals from the previous two seasons under coach Rulík, who, despite his still valid contract, agreed to leave for Pardubice after last season.
The team was taken over by Čihák as head coach, who was originally heading to Mladá Boleslav to work with Rulík after a one-year stint as an assistant coach in Hradec Králové.
