As is well known, great events cast their shadows ahead. This is particularly the case in the field of sport – as is the case with the “#BeActive” campaign. This is the European Week of Sport (see compact box), which always takes place from 23 to 30 September. This campaign should also have many sports enthusiasts in the Oldenburger Münsterland.
The European Week of Sport, which always takes place from 23 to 30 September, is an initiative of the European Commission with the aim of getting people in Europe excited about a more active life. All EU member states and other partner countries take part in this campaign across Europe. The DTB coordinates the European Sports Week in Germany and has the task of getting people moving and building a network through as many events as possible. The first European Sports Week took place in 2015. The German Olympic Sports Association was the national coordinator for Germany at the time.

The European Week of Sport has existed since 2015. In a short time, the campaign has become a long-running hit for young and old. If there was an event in Karlsruhe that year for the German sports badge, a year later things looked very different.

In 2016, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) took on the role of national coordinator. In that year there were already 284 events nationwide. This also included events organized by the regional gymnastics associations.
The “#BeActive” campaign gradually picked up speed. In 2017, over 14 million people in 32 countries took part in around 37,500 events. In that year, the German Association of Towns and Municipalities was also successfully won over with contact to all towns and municipalities in Germany, according to an information brochure from the DTB about the campaign.
Katrin Jaenicke from the German Gymnastics Association is already in the middle of preparing for this year’s event.
?? That’s what Jaenicke says
“In the course of the campaign last year, in addition to the classic events, we also carried out many digital campaigns such as an online fitness festival or #BeActive TV,” said Jaenicke when asked by our editorial team. They are also trying to use “#BeActive at the workplace” to bring more movement into the office or home office, says Jaenicke. For the European Week of Sport this year, it is also about expanding the partner network with popular sports-oriented associations.
The expansion of the commitment in the area of company health promotion via the campaign “#BeActive” at the workplace is also one of the plans for 2021. In addition, consultation hours for clubs are planned for more intensive exchange, it is said.
