“Sport can also make a difference outside of the field of play”

Wipperfürth – Miranda Wilson, player of the badminton Bundesliga club 1. BC Wipperfeld, starts sustainability project in the Congo.

The German national player Miranda Wilson, who plays for the Bundesliga club 1. BC Wipperfeld, is not only active in badminton. She has also been involved in sports and sustainability for many years. She has now started a Germany-wide reforestation initiative under the title “BadmintONEarth” and wants to implement a special project in the city of Bankana in the Congo, which is around 2.5 hours east of the capital Kinshasa.

Together with the Zenaga Foundation, which will control the implementation of the project, and the support of the badminton national player Kai Schäfer, a long-term positive effect for climate protection and the local people is to be achieved there through various measures. “At the same time, we want to live up to the responsibility of our sport and show that our sport can also make a difference outside of the field,” said Wilson, explaining her motivation.

She has already won many national players as supporters for her idea. At the start, they got together and collected a starting budget by offsetting the emissions from their tournament trips, with which the first fruit trees could be planted on site and a “solar education backpack” procured. Further donations are to be used for the implementation of additional plantings of fruit trees, the purchase of solar technology for schools and hospital wards, the improvement of education and sport and in social areas.

The project is not only aimed at competitive athletes, but wants to take all players, coaches, clubs and supporters throughout Badminton Germany with them and involve them. The 1st BCW and its chairman Andreas Lamsfuß are of course there. With a stake of ten euros or more, a tree can be planted in Bankana or the money can be used for solar and social projects.

If you want to donate, you can transfer money to the following account: Volksbank Lohne-Mühlen eG, Sports For Future, IBAN: DE94280625600007112900, purpose: BadmintONEarth ”. For donation receipts for donations over € 300, the name and address of the donor must be given. Further information is available at https://sportsforfuture.de and https://zenaga.de.
