Successful first edition of the El Campesino Christmas Race and March which left a day of fun in which sport, entertainment and recreation took center stage. And it is that the weather has also accompanied this test sponsored by the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism and which has the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

A totally clear sky, whose lack of clouds was accompanied only by the same absence of wind, served as a prelude to how to start a new sporting event of this magnitude on the right foot. This is how the 1st El Campesino Christmas Race and March was able to count on its first champions. Tessa Kortekaas and Tinguaro Quintero took the top step of the podium after completing the 11.5km race in 00:47:54 and 00:39:57 respectively. Ariana Ciprés (00:51:20) and Cristina Díaz (00:54:13) also witnessed the spectacular weather conditions, winning silver and bronze in the women’s category. While in the men’s classification, it was David Morales (00:41:13) and José Gabriel Garrucho (00:42:00) who reached second and third place.

Spectacular atmosphere that was experienced by the prolegomena, breathing a special atmosphere from the collection bus of all the participants established in the San Bartolomé football field to avoid overcrowding of vehicles in a privileged and protected environment such as La Geria. Therefore, the images were left to remember, with runners and walkers not only enjoying the sport but also being able to enjoy the musical performances which further spiced up the atmosphere of this El Campesino Christmas Race and March.

The landscape of Lanzarote has been able to bring together all types of athletes, even those who do not consider themselves athletes, as this event has managed to underline that Christmas character, concentrating groups of participants in the company of both family and friends, of all the ages . , who were able to enjoy both running and walking modes. Yes, at 4.15pm the starting shot of the 11.5km race was heard; at 4.30 pm It was the turn of the runners who set off from Finca Testenia to complete the 6.5 km course, both categories coinciding at the start of the latter to leave a more sumptuous image at the finish of the Farmer’s Monument, since the goal was shared by all modalities, transforming César Manrique’s work into a common reference point and meeting place for this sporting event to which it gives its name.

Cristina Capitán (00:26:39) and Jorge Wilkes (00:23:39) were first in the 6.5km race. They were followed by Yana Tumakuva (00:32:34) and Aurora García (0032:54), to complete the women’s podium; and Avelino Santos (00:23:41) and Akoran Rodríguez (00:25:18) in the men’s category. Earlier, from 16:00, the walk from Finca Testenia had already started, which was separated by 6.5 km to also reach the Farmer’s Monument, from where the sports party continued once the participants arrived .

In addition to the affluence caused by the live music of the party, there was the possibility of enjoying the Christmas gastronomy and, how could it be otherwise, the best winemaking on the island. Thus closes a first edition that has been very well received, with almost 200 participants distributed across all modalities, so it seems that it will not be the last, especially if we take into account the response received from the participants who have not hesitated to continue enjoying a different, original and different day with family friends while practicing healthily in one of the most unique environments on the island.
