Around a hundred children were introduced to rugby on Saturday in Andohatapenaka. This is the result of the collaboration between Tibu Africa, Terres en Mêlées and Materauto.
The private and associative sectors came together around the value of sport on Saturday at the Maki Andohatapenaka stadium. They share the same point of view through the theme: “Education and the values provided by sport”. More than 100 children aged between 7 and 15 have benefited from this project. They come from disadvantaged neighborhoods and from different associations in the capital. This day was very busy and fun because the organizers offered activities relating to the oval ball and its values. These children were supervised by around ten technicians. The Terres en Mêlées association shared its experiences on rugby through various activities. The Materauto and Ford car dealership, for its part, organized a workshop to show these children that they can become professionals and entrepreneurs in the field of sport, and that rugby can support them in their social life.
“We chose rugby because it is a popular sport in Madagascar. Many young people in disadvantaged neighborhoods like to play rugby and we happened to be in the middle of the World Cup. This theme aims to help these children experience the values brought by rugby. We try to show them that they can have a professional career”, said Frédéric Schaffner, Managing Director of Materauto. In collaboration with Tibu Africa, the leader in social innovation through sport in Morocco, is now present in four African countries, children are equipped with sports, audiovisual and educational equipment. The Malagasy Rugby Federation must also recognize the importance of this program. “Since 2015, we have used rugby as a tool of education and emancipation for young girls. Thanks to various teacher training programs, the pedagogy of Terres en Mêlées was able to introduce rugby into schools to promote the quality of education and create a national school rugby championship. Today, we are very happy to see a link forming between the private, associative and federal sectors around the value of sport, united to develop programs intended for Malagasy children”added Pierre Gony, founder of Terres en Mêlées.
