Sponsorship and exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art of Villeurbanne

At the initiative of the Foundation and the association Les Amis de l’IAC, theInstitute of Contemporary Art sis in a former primary school in Villeurbannehas been offering, since 2018, a dinner during which the guests meet a internationally renowned artist. This year it will be December 12.

All this while discovering the young guard, since the event takes place within the space dedicated toexposition titled Young international creation.

The opportunity to financially support the art center, via an original practice of patronage. A very accessible way, moreover, since everyone can participate in this dinner, considered as a patronage action as such, and therefore tax free 66% for individuals and 60% for businesses.

This evening also serves “to highlight the IAC and also to bring its archives to life“, explain Jacques Catonpresident of the Foundation and friends of the IAC.

Patrons of the Institute of Contemporary Art will be able to meet the artist Yan Pei-Ming

Indeed, thanks to the close relationships that the center maintains with artists who exhibited at the start of their career, who have since become “big names”, it was able to afford the luxury of inviting Lawrence Weinera major figure in conceptual art, for the 40th anniversary of the IAC in 2018.

Then Daniel Buren in 2019, Tony Cragg in 2022, and Bernard Venet in 2023. This year, it’s the artist’s turn Yan Pei-Ming to join them for this new dinner.

Linked to the IAC since 1994 when he exhibited there the series of portraits created in residence Faces – PortraitsYan Pei-Ming returns in 2024 with works and archives from the Institute’s collection exhibited for the occasion.

This is a portrait acquired in 1994, Elisabeth Nighogossianresult of the collaboration that the artist had with the residence for the elderly closest to the art center, and of a drawing, Untitledmade in 1993.

An exhibition integrated into the Lyon Contemporary Art Biennale

Associated with this exceptional dinner, the exhibition Young international creation is also integrated, as has been the custom since 2009, in the official programming of the Contemporary Art Biennial.

Fruit of a call for projects open to any artist with a link to the region, the regional selection brings together five young artists as does the international selection in exemplary parity.

Developed from invitations made to various directors of international museum institutions, this selection differentiates itself by very varied universes even if they all show a palpable concern in their works.

The introduction is devilishly colored by the psychedelic installation of Shivay La Multiple“meta-being”, which presents In search of the woody fruita work and a long-term project along the rivers. An artist to certainly follow, as his universe, where history and geography, pearls and calabashes, culture 2.0 and ancient traditions collide, is astonishing and rich.

The rest is just as abundant, from the room to the mattresses printed with testimonies from the artist’s hotel workers. Hilary Galdbreaith which delivers a reflection on hospitality to that of the duo Jeanetta Petch & Szymon Kula and its disturbing strangeness through the monumental and equally distressing sculpture of Meri Karapetyan.
