A committee of 13 people (see more here) elected the four teams participating in the playoffs. For the others, the Bowl Games season begins. To be eligible for one of these 42 prestige games, a university must have won at least 6 wins during the season. Played on neutral grounds, these matches represent the apotheosis for the fans. The vast majority of the teams presented here have been presented in detail throughout the season, so you can find the articles in question linked, allowing you to dive into the squads of these teams if necessary.
Les playoffs
With its victory in the SEC Conference Finals, Alabama obtained the number 1 seed. Despite the loss, Georgia and its near-perfect season recovers number 3. These semi-finals will therefore be Alabama-Cincinnati on the ground of the Dallas Cowboys and Michigan-Georgia on that of the Dolphins in Miami. The two winners will meet in Indianapolis on January 10, 2022. These matches and their keys as well as the major players will be presented to you on the day of the semi-finals, Friday December 31, 2021. Game of Thrones.
The main
- Rose Bowl : Ohio State-Utah
Match taking place on January 1 of each year since 1916, the Rose Bowl opposes the champions of the Big Ten and Pac 12 conferences to Pasadena. This season, the B1G champion is qualified for the playoffs (Michigan) so it will be his runner-up who will play this prestigious meeting. In 2022, the stadium that gives its name to the game will therefore host the universities of Ohio State and Utah. Another opportunity for the young quarterback CJ Stroud to shine and showcase its formidable receivers. On the side of the Mormons, the defense led by the linebacker Devin Lloyd will try to stop them. In attack, to follow the formidable runner Tavion Thomas. Match on January 1, 2022 at 11 p.m.
- Peach Bowl : Pittsburgh-Michigan State
On the field of the Atlanta Falcons, the runner Kenneth Walker will try to give the victory to the Michigan State Spartans. On the side of Pitt, the quarterback will want to take advantage of the poor pass defense of his opponents. Still without a successor for Matt Ryan, what if Kenny Pickett was there playing a match on his future lawn? His duet with the receiver Jordan Addison is terrible but unfortunately for us, and for his team, the quarterback has decided not to play this game! Match on the night of December 30 at 1 a.m.
- Sugar Bowl : Baylor-Ole Miss
An excellent defense against a very productive attack! Led by defensive specialist Dave Aranda, Baylor offers quality on this side of the ball. Among others, a dominant player by defensive curtain: Check Ika (DT), Terrel Bernard (LB) and Jalen Pitre (S). They will not be too many to try to slow down the one who could be the 1st quarterback chosen in the 2022 draft: Matt Corral. Match on the night of January 1 at 2:45 a.m.
- Fiesta Bowl : Notre Dame-Oklahoma State
Two historic strongholds. On the one hand the legend Joe Marino, Quenton Nelson (Colts) and Chase Claypool (Steelers), on the other still a legend with Barry Sanders or more recently Dez Bryant and Chris Carson (Seahawks). Notre Dame has a lot of talent in its workforce and will be led by the man who was its defensive coordinator during the season. Marcus Freeman becomes head coach for the next season, and from this game, to replace Brian Kelly left for LSU. Unfortunately for them, and for us, the safety Kyle Hamilton and the runner Kyren Williams have announced that they have given up this match! Oklahoma State will rely on a high-performance committee at the running back position and on a few quality defensive players: Tyler Lacy (FROM), Malcolm Rodriguez (LB) and Kolby Harvell-Peel (S). To be continued, the freshman Collin Oliver, an already effective pass rusher (10 sacks).
- Outback Bowl : Penn State-Arkansas
On the field of the Buccaneers in Tampa, this prestigious match opposes, as usual, a university from the Big 10 and one from the SEC. Authors of a mixed season (7-5 and 4-5 in conference games), Penn State players will be keen to end the season on a good note. Especially those who will leave campus to join the NFL: Jahan Dotson (WR), Brandon Smith (LB), Rasheed Walker (OT) et Jaquan Brisker (S). Arkansas has a powerful rushing offense and receiver with the potential to be a 2022 1st round pick in Treylon Burks. Razorbacks can also rely on experienced defensive players like Tre Williams (DE), the pair of linebackers Grant Morgan and Bumper Pool as well as on the cornerback Montaric Brown. Game on January 1 at 6 p.m.
A few more to follow
- Alamo Bowl : Oregon-Oklahoma
For these players, as for those from other universities, playing a last game is a source of pride but also an additional risk of injury. Some, like Kayvon Thibodeaux (OLB), prefer not to play this prestigious match. While the head coach has just left the ship, there will nevertheless be a lot of talent on the Ducks side: Brandon Dorlus (34DE), Travis Dye (WR) et Verone McKinley (S). Above all, an exceptional linebacker with Noah Sewell. Oklahoma will also have to do with a new coach in 2022 after the departure of Lincoln Riley (at USC) but the newcomer, already named, will remain at his university in Clemson for this last match (Brent Venables). On the field, the duo Caleb Williams (QB) and Marvin Mims (WR) is explosive, even more so by adding the beginner Mario Williams (WR). On the other hand in defense, two players each having a high rating with the NFL scouts, give up playing this match: Perrion Winfrey (DT) et Nik Bonitto (34OLB). Match on the night of December 29 at 03:15.
- Citrus Bowl : Iowa-Kentucky
Barring defections, 2022 NFL rookies will be plentiful in Orlando. Darian Kinnard (OT), Chris Rodriguez (RB) and Josh Paschal (DE) will no longer play in Kentucky but in the NFL next year. Ditto on the side of Iowa, with in particular Sam Laporta (AT), Tyler Linderbaum (OC) and Tyler Goodson (RB). The linebacker Jack Campbell has not yet declared himself to the 2022 draft, he could return to Iowa but he is already a dominant player in his position. Game on January 1 at 7 p.m.
- Gator Bowl : Texas A&M-Wake Forest
With a powerful attack but a defense often in Swiss cheese mode, Wake Forest will challenge Texas A&M in Jacksonville, on the ground of the Jaguars. Be careful not to drink the cup in the pool located in the stands. Game on December 31 at 5 p.m.
- Duke’s Mayo Bowl : North Carolina-South Carolina
Duels of neighboring states and if it is still unknown if all the stars of the two teams will be present, there are enough quality players on both sides to have a good match. Note that a barrel of Gatorade, the one used to water the winning coach at the end of the match, will be replaced by one filled with…mayonnaise! Match on December 30 at 5:30 p.m.
- Cheez-it Bowl : Clemson-Iowa State
If the Tigers disappointed in 2021, the talent is nevertheless present in the workforce of Clemson. Iowa State’s defense has been strong in 2021 but they will have a hard time dealing with young opposing shoots, including the runner Will Shipley and the receiver Beaux Collins.
