It is not possible to give a final answer to why the EM euphoria is rather subdued in Germany. The pandemic plays an important role, but it is certainly not the only explanation. For many it is important if the stadiums are empty or only half full, but most of them do not mind. 37 percent say the Covid-19 restrictions would tarnish the joy of the EM. About as many do not feel that way.
The data allow different interpretations of whether the EM is a crowd puller or not. After all: The opening game was by far the odds winner, even if significantly fewer spectators were watching than at the opening game in 2016.
