The news that Jonas Jerebko is ready for games in CSKA Moscow in the Russian league in the middle of Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine has attracted much attention.
The Swedish beverage company Vitamin Well has since 2019 sponsored Jonas Jerebko, who has been an ambassador for their energy drink Nocco. But due to the club choice, the cooperation is interrupted.
“Due to Jonas Jerebko’s decision to play in Russia, we chose earlier this week to end the collaboration,” writes Catharina Carlsdotter, marketing manager at Vitamin Well, in an email to DN.
The company found out the club election on Sunday night and made the decision on Monday.
The International Basketball Federation, Fiba, has banned all Russian teams and referees from playing in international tournaments.
Due to the war in Ukraine and the prevailing situation, almost all foreign players have chosen to leave CSKA and the Russian league. The acquisition of Jerebko therefore comes as a welcome addition.
“We wanted an experienced player as a power forward, we needed one in the new circumstances. Obviously there are not many options on the market now “, says CSKA’s coach Dimitrios Itoudis in a statement on the club’s Twitter-kontoand continues:
“Jonas has not played in a professional team lately, so we have to work to get him in shape both physically and mentally and get him into our system.”
At CSKA Moscow’s social media Jonas Jerebko comments on his new club:
“It is an honor to come to such a historic club as CSKA. I have been waiting for an opportunity to play basketball again and I am very tagged on joining the team. “
