A 23-year-old American woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the particularly violent murder of her 3-year-old daughter.
An outburst of violence apparently inspired… by the hero of a children’s cartoon. A resident of the State of Michigan (United States) was recently sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison, after being found guilty of the murder of her 3-year-old daughter, committed in September 2021.
As related by Daily Star, the young woman had been arrested after her brother had discovered, while visiting her, “a garbage bag with a child’s foot sticking out”. The police then found the body of a little girl stabbed 17 times.
Hallucinations ‘due to heroin withdrawal’
The police quickly identified the victim as the daughter of the occupant of the apartment. The latter, who suffered from mental disorders and heroin addiction, had fled the scene but was finally arrested a few hours later.
Questioned by the various elements collected by the investigators, the mother will later explain that she committed this crime in a daze. “She told me she couldn’t remember the details of what happened to her daughter, that she was hallucinating due to heroin withdrawal and hadn’t slept for about two weeks. “, detailed Ryan Eberline, of the child protection service, during the trial which was held a few weeks ago.
She expresses deep remorse during her trial
“She had hallucinations from television, she had been asked to take her daughter’s life, otherwise she would have killed herself,” continues the investigator. More precisely, the young woman would have, in her delirium, received these chilling orders from SpongeBob, the famous hero of the harmless eponymous cartoon.
During her trial, the young woman admitted that at the time of the murder, she was no longer taking the medication prescribed to her to treat her mental disorders, but also that she had consumed “illicit substances” in the hours before the tragedy. After expressing deep “remorse” in front of the judges (“I want everyone to know that every day I want to take my daughter’s place”), the defendant was finally sentenced to life in prison, without possibility of release. of pain.
