Hanke: “We, as Viennese SPÖ women, have always fought and continue to do so today for a good life for all women.” – Sharp criticism of the federal government
Vienna (OTS/SPW) – Vienna Women’s Secretary Nicole Berger-Krotsch opened the annual conference of the Viennese SPÖ women today, Saturday, which took place in the Expedithalle Vienna under the motto “Today for a better tomorrow”. At the conference, the Viennese SPÖ women made it clear: the federal government’s inaction is no longer acceptable. Effective, feminist measures are now needed against inflation, the effects of the pandemic and the war. ****
More than 180 delegates came together in Vienna-Favoriten and discussed various topics that will affect women in 2022. One crisis is currently chasing the other. Measures against material inequality, which was exacerbated by the crisis, labor market policy, women’s health, educational measures and commitments to peace and neutrality were therefore the content of the political motions at the annual conference of the Vienna SPÖ women. “With the applications decided today, we have once again shown that we stand side by side in solidarity and are ready for the challenges ahead. There is a great feminist future ahead of us!” said the Viennese women’s chair Marina Hanke combatively.
Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig found clear words in his welcome speech: “The Viennese social democracy has always advocated self-determination, solidarity and equality,” emphasized the Mayor of Vienna. Vienna does everything to empower women in all areas of life. Through a dense violence protection network, but also through the support of women in economically difficult times. “Before the summer, 262,000 Viennese will receive an energy cost allowance of 200 euros as part of the Vienna Energy Support Plus without an application. The amount has now been increased to 300 euros for single parents, who are particularly suffering from the sharp rise in prices,” emphasized Dr. Michael Ludwig. The Mayor of Vienna gave special thanks to the many employees in the health sector who were there for the people of Vienna during the Corona pandemic. As a city, we are constantly working to improve working conditions in this challenging area, which employs many women. The Mayor of Vienna thanked the Viennese Women’s Chairwoman Marina Hanke for the good cooperation: “Together we will continue to follow the Viennese path consistently and resolutely,” said Dr. Michael Ludwig.
Subtitle: “It is high time that this federal government not only dealt with its own scandals and its own power politics, but with the most disastrous social inequality in this country!”
Inflation was an important topic at the conference. “We finally need concrete steps from the federal government. It can’t be that women are left in the lurch now. In addition to a brake on inflation, long-term measures must finally be taken, such as reducing working hours or implementing the maintenance guarantee,” Hanke made clear.
At the same time, the women’s chairperson pleads for solidarity, especially in this day and age. “Men warmongering are destroying lives right now. Today it is more important than ever that we promote feminist peace politics and say: this system has no future and must change,” said Hanke.
The unanimously approved leading motion of the Viennese SPÖ women defines the central demands for a better tomorrow: an inflation brake so that basic needs do not become a luxury, measures for affordable housing, a reduction in working hours with full pay and staff compensation, real wage transparency, the maintenance guarantee, measures for a real “half-half”, concrete measures against poverty in old age and peace in Europe and the world as well as the improvement of the situation of refugee women in Austria.
“There is much to do. We in Vienna are already working on a better, feminist future every day. It’s time for the federal government to do the same!” concluded Hanke.
