JAKARTA – Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral TNI Yudo Margono said that KRI Nanggala 402 lost contact has been found in Balinese waters. Where the distance is 1,500 yards to the south from where the ship sank for the first time with a depth of 838 meters.

The Singapore submarine, he said, deployed a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to follow up on the underwater contact provided by KRI Rigel. As a result, at 09.04 WITA, the ROV dispatched by Singapore got visual contact at the position of 07 degrees 48 minutes 56 seconds South and 114 degrees 51 minutes 20 seconds East. “Namely, it is located from datum 1 where the sinking of KRI Nanggala is approximately 1,500 yards in the South at a depth of 838 meters. There are parts of KRI Nanggala,” he said.

As previously reported, KRI Nanggala 402 lost contact while carrying out a torpedo test in Balipada waters on Wednesday, April 17, 2021. When the incident occurred, KRI Nanggala was carrying 53 crew members.
