Tom Hardy was set to become Agent Sam Fisher for a Splinter Cell film. The project appears to have died after many years of work.

The popular “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” video game series disappeared into obscurity years ago. There hasn’t been a new main part for a long time, so it’s hardly surprising that a planned film adaptation has apparently been discontinued.

at the end of 2012 Industry media such as “Deadline” reportedthat “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “The Dark Knight Rises” star Tom Hardy, 47, should play the lead role in the adaptation. The Brit was supposed to portray secret agent Sam Fisher, the main character of the series. However, the project has now apparently been scrapped, as film producer Basil Iwanyk (54, “John Wick”) suggests.

A “Splinter Cell” movie? “We just couldn’t get it done”

Iwanyk sei according to a report by the portal “The Direct” joined in 2013 as producer of the planned “Splinter Cell” film. However, he has now explained: “This film would have been great… We just didn’t get it right, neither in terms of the script nor the budget. But it should be great.” There have apparently been “a million different versions” over the years. The film would have been “the right one, which is really sad,” said Iwanyk.

According to media reports, a “Splinter Cell” film has been planned since at least 2005. Actors such as Mark Wahlberg, 53, Thomas Jane, 55, Eric Bana, 56, and Kurt Russell, 73, were in the room for the main role before Tom Hardy took over seven years later.

The first game in the “Splinter Cell” series was released in 2002. In the years that followed there were several successors. However, the release of the last title in the main series, “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist”, was now more than eleven years ago. Meanwhile, “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” an animated series, is planned to appear on Netflix and is expected to be released in 2025.
