‘Splendid Palace’ will show films awarded at the ‘Artdocfest / Riga’ festival

The festival “Artdocfest”, created by the well-known documentary filmmaker Vitaly Manska, took place in various formats last year, despite the obstacles created by the pandemic, so the Splendid Palace cinema is honored to showcase the best documentaries, festival winners and invite cinema-goers value for the beginning of the week – Monday, the representatives of the cinema write.

The documentary series on Monday, January 31, at 8 pm, will be opened by director Elīna Lange-Ionatamashvili’s film “Restless Memories” (60 ‘, Latvia, 2022). The plot of the film tells the story of two Georgian children who are living in the 2008 Georgian-Russian war refugee village of Cerovani.

After the film, there will be a meeting with the director with the opportunity to ask questions and learn the behind the scenes of the documentary.

Next, on February 7, at 8 pm, Reka Valerik’s film “Silent Voice” (60 ‘France, 2020) will be screened. A conversation with the head of the National Cinema Center Dita Rietums is expected before the screening.
The plot of the film tells the story of a new Chechen wrestler, Havadja, who has high hopes for mixed martial arts (MMA). When his brother finds out about Havadja’s homosexuality and threatens to kill him, the protagonist is forced to flee to Brussels. The young man takes comfort in the planetarium in silence among the stars. The film tells the story of his first months in Belgium.

On February 21 at 8 pm you will be able to watch Viktor Kosakovsky’s film Gunda (Gunda, 93 ‘, Norway, USA, 2020), but before the screening a conversation with the president of the festival “Artdocfest / Riga” Vitalija Manski is expected.

The film “Gunda” tells the story of pigs, cows and chickens living in the same household. It’s black and white, no words, no music, but with sound. The director offers not only an exciting poetic work of art, but also a great life experience. Getting to know sow Gunda, her family and neighbors gives us a chance to think about the depths of consciousness and the value of life – all of whom we live on this planet with.

It has already been reported that in 2021 “Artdocfest / Riga” took place for the first time as a separate festival. Until then, it was part of the Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF) in Latvia.
