Splave, new world record with a liquid nitrogen cooled Ryzen 9 3900XT

In the world of overclocking and world records in general, sometimes it takes very little to get the title of leaders blown. Takukou knows that he has seen Splave blow the score record obtained in HxBot x265 on the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT CPU.

Takukou’s record it only lasted for a week, day plus day less: the overclocker had earned the world record scoring the highest score ever recorded in the HwBot x265 benchmark with an AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT CPU, cooling it with liquid helium. The record was blown by Splave that has exceeded the score obtained of a trifle. However, the most interesting thing is that the new record holder was using liquid nitrogen and not helium durante i benchmark.

Theoretically, the steps to follow to try to break the record in question are few and easy to understand:

  1. Overclock an AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT CPU as high as possible while keeping it stable
  2. Run the HwBot x256 benchmark to get the highest possible framerate

However point 1 is not that simple to achieve and, above all, it depends on many factors. For example, the environmental situation may differ (temperature and humidity of the air can be determining factors and difficult to control), the type of motherboard, RAM and PSU used as well as obviously the quality of the chip itself which varies according to the so-called “silicon lottery”, that is the probability of receiving a chip that during the production process was made “better” than another, it is not possible to produce two chips exactly identical to each other.

In this case the configuration of Takukou she had managed to get a score of 34.26fps with the CPU stable at the frequency of 5,624GHz on all 12 cores with a voltage of 1,728V. Splave passed the score by very little, totaling 34.78fps with the chip a 5,650GHz with a voltage of 1,50V. Given the voltage difference required for overclocking and the use of liquid helium versus liquid nitrogen (which have different cooling performance) it is clear that Splave won the chip lottery with a more stable CPU on its hands for this type of operation. However, nothing detracts from the result obtained, certainly not easy to obtain.

However, the record for the highest frequency obtained on a Ryzen 9 3900XT does not belong to either enthusiast but it is still in the hands of Tsaik which managed to bring the CPU from AMD to the frequency of 6,120GHz.
