Splashy appearance of a rainbow on Mars, NASA said

Jakarta

The robotics rover Perseverance is currently researching the Planet Mars send lots of photos from there. One of them seemed to exist rainbow on the Red Planet, causing a stir.

The photo shows the arid surface of Mars and above it is the sky. Now in that sky, there is a curved object that is very similar to a rainbow. This photo spread on social media and was immediately discussed.

Even though rainbows cannot exist on Mars because there are no raindrops there, unlike on Earth. Then what is the actual appearance? Netizens are busy expressing theories. It is possible that the object appeared due to dust particles in the Martian air.

NASA seemed to have noticed the crowd so as to reveal the answer to this mystery. The United States space agency confirmed that what was seen from the Perseverance photo footage was not rainbow as on Earth.

Apparently, this rainbow appears due to lens flare or lens flare that comes from the Perseverance camera system known as Hazcams.

“Many are asking whether there is a rainbow on Mars? Nothing. Rainbows can not be there. Rainbows are created by light reflected by water droplets,” said NASA.

“But there isn’t enough water on Mars for condensation and it’s too cold for liquid water to exist in its atmosphere, so it’s a lens flare, not rainbow. “they were quoted as saying detikINET from Space.com.

Lens flare is light scattered in optical lens systems which generally occurs due to unwanted image formation mechanisms, for example due to internal reflections or less homogeneous lens material.
