SPKC spokeswoman: Half of recent Covid-19 cases have in common – regular attendance at entertainment events – Society and politics – News

According to Dimiņa, the epidemiological situation is not stable yet and in terms of the number of cases, Latvia has returned in March, again “facing epidemiological choices and decision-making”.

The specialist reminded that 41 new cases of Covid-19 have already been registered this week, and there are two more holidays ahead. “Compared to last week, when only eight cases were registered, I think it is clear to everyone that this is a significant increase,” said a spokeswoman for the SPKC.

She pointed out that the structure of the infection had changed. If in previous weeks it could be said about cases of illness that they were related to people who came from abroad and then infected some Latvians, now it is no longer the case.

The representative of the SPKC emphasized that the situation has changed this week – if in the last weeks about half of the disease expectations were related to foreign countries, then this week they make up about 15%. According to the expert, this means that the spread of the disease in Latvia can no longer be associated only with newcomers.

Dimiņa draws parallels with the situation in Latvia at the beginning of March, when in the 11th week of the year 27 cases of Covid-19 were registered in Latvia, of which 25 people had been infected abroad. “The number of patients was high next week as well, but still the majority of patients came from abroad and their contacts. By week, the structure of patients at week 13 had changed rapidly and more than 10% were already related to the spread of the infection in the community,” he explained. SPKC representative. According to Dimiņa, the similarities suggest that it is the right time to return to certain precautions.

There are currently ten cases of Covid-19 in which the SPCC is still working on the hypotheses of an epidemiological investigation.

We need to be smart and careful enough to make the coming weeks easier, the specialist added.

As reported, in order to limit the spread of Covid-19 and prevent more and more outbreaks of the disease, the Cabinet of Ministers decided on Friday to shorten the working hours of public catering establishments.

It is also stipulated that the catering service provider at the catering place will have to ensure that in the places visible to visitors (at least at the entrance and at the checkout catering place) clearly publicly available information on the maximum number of persons that can be present at the place of provision can be read.

Indoors, no more than four non-household visitors may be present at one table, and no more than eight non-household visitors per table.
