Spink & Spink: The twin connection of the Wild Wings

The twins Tylor and Tyson Spink have been spinning in the Schwenninger Wild Wings offensive line since 2020. A duo with a very special connection – on and off the ice.

The identical twins Tylor and Tyson Spink arrive together for the home game against the Augsburg Panthers. Even later on the ice they are in the same forward line for the Schwenninger Wild Wings. Of course for the two Canadians – the 31-year-olds have always played for the same club throughout their entire careers.

“The chemistry is just right between us”

When you look at this year’s statistics in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the Spinks are also on the move as a unit. Tylor and Tyson each have three goals and four assists to their name so far. The duo has a very special connection in their offensive line. “Because we’ve been playing together for so long, the chemistry between us is just right. Over the years, of course, we always know exactly what each other thinks and does,” says Tyson Spink.

If you want to tell the twins apart, it’s difficult outside the arena. On the ice, the numbers on the back and the shooting side help: Tylor – 90 – right, Tyson – 96 – left.

Confusion? “We always have fun with it”

When the twins are addressed by each other’s names, they take it with humor, as Tyson Spink says: “We always have fun with it. When I’m addressed as Tylor, I simply answer for my brother. We are “We’re used to it and we don’t mind.”

Tylor Spink: “We have no plans to change that and split up”

If Tylor Spink has his way, the twin combination on the ice can continue like this for a long time. “Even though you never know what will happen, we have no plans to change that and separate.”

Defeat against Augsburg

The Spink twins were unable to make their Sunday afternoon successful, at least in terms of sport. They lost the home game against Augsburg (October 13, 2024) with their Wild Wings 1:2. “We simply made too many mistakes and, above all, conceded too many penalties,” said Tyson Spink after the game.

After nine match days, the Wild Wings are in eleventh place in the table with eight points. The next game for Schwenninger is in their own arena on Thursday against the Iserloh Roosters.
