SPIN at the Festival Theaterformen 2023
SPIN transforms the Cumberland stage into a dance floor on which audience and performers understand each other without words. The three dove hosts Anna Seymour, Chris Fonseca and Raffie Julien as well as a DJ invite you to a dance performance to join in. Inspired by the club scenes of San Francisco, Mexico, Cuba and Berlin, celebrates SPIN the physical and social experience of parties, subcultures and rituals that bring us together. and challenges the notion that a club is not a place where deaf people go.
SPIN opens up its own kind of communication, in which the performers communicate with the audience through dance and the use of body language. Included blurring the lines between performers and audience and overriding common prejudices about deaf people in relation to dance and music. At this performance, everyone who wants to is invited to join in and celebrate deaf culture, identity and togetherness together.
The dancer and performer Anna Seymour was born in Australia. Born deaf into a hearing family, she began dancing at the age of six. She studied dance in Melbourne and worked there as a freelance dancer, choreographer, teacher, consultant and producer. She is currently a dancer with Candoco Dance Company, an international company of disabled and able-bodied dancers in England and Wales.
