DHF cases in Pontianak City experienced a spike. Data from the Pontianak City Health Office starting from January 2023 until now there have been 65 cases recorded. From these data, the most cases of DHF are in the Pontianak District area
Pontianak (ANTARA) – The Mayor of Pontianak, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan), Edi Rusdi Kamtono, instructed the Head of the Pontianak City Health Office as well as the Director of the Sultan Syarif Hospital Mohamad Alkadrie to be alert in anticipation of a spike in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases.
“DHF cases in Pontianak City have experienced a surge. Data from the Pontianak City Health Office starting from January 2023 until now there are 65 cases recorded. From these data, the most cases of DHF are in the Pontianak City District area. For those who have symptoms of DHF, immediately take them to the nearest health facility , so that the treatment is faster,” he said in Pontianak, Saturday.
Apart from that, he continued, the RT (Rukun Tetangga) and the local village head immediately coordinated with the nearest health center to spray or fog to suppress the spread of DHF.
“I asked the puskesmas staff and the Health Service to routinely carry out fogging in areas where dengue outbreaks have occurred,” he said.
Dengue fever is a disease caused by the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which appears in an environment that is not kept clean, causing mosquito nests.

Therefore, Edi appealed to the public to always maintain the cleanliness of their respective environments. “Clean the surroundings. Don’t let water containers become mosquito nests. In essence, don’t let Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes breed in stagnant water,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Pontianak City Health Office, Saptiko, explained that his party had taken steps to anticipate a spike in dengue cases, including fogging in residential areas and schools, eradicating mosquito nests (PSN), to epidemiological investigations by the Karya Mulia Health Center UPT.
“We immediately moved to take anticipatory steps, be it fogging, eradicating mosquito nests, to alerting health workers at existing health facilities,” said Saptiko. Apart from that, his party also sprinkled Abate powder, as well as conducted outreach to the community.
Saptiko continued that DHF cases can occur anywhere, even in clean places, even though DHF can lurk. Most cases of DHF are indeed found in children, so parents are asked to check the environment where they live. If there are mosquito breeding sites, clean them immediately.
“The cans that serve as water reservoirs should be cleaned or stockpiled. This is because mosquitoes can breed from here. Children are also advised to use citronella oil or mosquito repellent lotion, both at home and at school,” he said.
