What do FC Augsburg and the Club for Games and Sport Krefeld have in common? The founding year 1908. However, the similarities are already over then, because while Bayern play in the Bundesliga, SUS 08 kicks in the district league B. A reason to celebrate anyway.
The club was founded in 1908 as a Crefeld sports club, now Spiel und Sport 08 is celebrating its 115th birthday. Today’s association, which has around 500 members, was formed after various mergers. 17 teams are registered in the soccer field, 14 of them in the youth field. From Corpus Christi, the association’s anniversary will be celebrated for ten days. From June 8th to June 18th, the youth sports weeks with football tournaments from Bambini to C youth will be held again.
In addition, there will be some special program items this year, such as the Krefeld city championship for D-Juniors on June 8th. This is about the “Richard Meyer memorial cup” donated by Mayor Frank Meyer. He has been a member of the club for a number of years. The cup owes its name to the mayor’s grandfather, who was an honorary member of Spiel und Sport. Last year, the D youth of the black and white team was able to celebrate the triumph, this year nine competitors stand in the way of defending the title.
Three days later, the E-Juniors city championship is on the agenda. Here, ten participants are fighting for the challenge cup of the Greenland Citizens’ Association.
A certainly special treat is the “Day of Legends 2.0” on June 16th with a big alumni get-together from 5 p.m. Current and former athletes or simply people who sympathize with the club are invited by the game and sport to meet up with old companions of all kinds again and let old memories come up and celebrate together. “You’re welcome to bring old memorabilia, press articles and photos,” says Frank Dahlschen, who is the youth leader of SuS 08 and managing director of KG Grünland. The existing grill takes care of your physical well-being before a DJ ends the evening.
A day later, the “Krefelder Karnevalskapp” returns from the Corona break. At the football tournament, ten Krefeld carnival clubs kick the ball for a good cause. The amount ultimately raised, which is the focus of the day, is divided evenly between the Shrove Monday procession 2024 and the youth department of SuS 08 Krefeld. There will be a lot of carnival celebrities, including of course the princely couple Dirk III. and Steffi II., expected. Here, too, a DJ will do the rest to make the day perfect. The current title defender of the challenge cup is the 1. Krefeld Navy with its captains Thilo Zickler and Michael Zecha. The Königshof brewery has also come up with something suitable for the tournament and is adding 50 liters of beer to the winning team, 30 liters to second place and 20 liters to third place.
