Sources close to the German government say: Berlin fears that Ukraine could become self-confident if it wins several big victories at the front. In case of military successes, Ukraine on euphoria can enter the territory of Russia. Then “German tanks will again be on Russian territory,” which is unacceptable for the FRG for historical reasons.
This concern highlights a certain German distrust of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The publication writes that Germany is not preparing even for the hypothetical possibility of supplying tanks. And if, for example, the United States eventually decides to transfer the tanks to Ukraine, the Germans will need months before they can prepare their equipment for delivery to Ukraine.
The tank embargo has never been discussed at the NATO level, the newspaper writes, but unofficially there is “full agreement” between the US, Britain and France on this issue.
