After some rumors about a Spider-Man remaster for the PlayStation 5, Sony gave the answer last Wednesday. The 2018 game is indeed coming to the new PlayStation in the form of backwards compatibility, as well as a remaster. The game will also be bundled with Miles Morales, which is especially interesting if you haven’t played the previous part.
If you go for the Ultimate Edition, it contains Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Spider-Man and all City That Never Sleeps expansions. A wonderful package to keep you entertained for a long time, but what exactly is a ‘remaster’ in terms of Insomniac Games? A simple upgrade or something more?
James Stevenson, community director, has on it PlayStation Blog indicated that work has been done on it. A large part of the assets have been updated to make optimal use of the PlayStation 5 power. This makes characters, their skin, eyes, hair, animations and much more look a lot better.
Ray tracing is also used for better reflections, the game also has nicer shadows, improved lighting, more pedestrians and vehicles, and the game is playable at 60 frames per second. In addition, you now benefit from fast loading times, 3D audio, the DualSense features, new photo mode functions, Trophies and three new suits for Spider-Man.
Interestingly, it is explicitly stated that you can achieve the platinum Trophy again. That means that a separate Trophy set will be uploaded for the PS5 version. So fans of the game have something to look forward to. Existing game owners will receive a free upgrade.
