Recently it became clear that everyone who picks up Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 5 will get a refurbished version of Spider-Man with the purchase. This week went developer Insomniac out with what players can expect from the new version, but not everything has received a positive reception.
In addition to a visual boost for the entire game, it is the man behind the mask, Peter Parker, who is undergoing the biggest change. Insomniac has replaced the hero’s face, and instead of John Bubniak, Spider-Man Remastered uses the resemblance to Ben Jordan.
Fans have not been convinced
According to Insomniac, Jordan’s face is a better match for the voice acting provided by Yuri Lowenthal. As the developer explains, it is the improvements on the PlayStation 5 that have made it necessary to switch.
For that reason, the fans have not been completely convinced. Mostly the criticism is that players now have to get used to a whole new face, but many also speculate that the change was made because the new Peter Parker is more similar to Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in the Marvel movies.
At the time of writing, the YouTube trailer that unveiled Parker’s new face has twice as many thumbs down as it has thumbs up. On social media, many are very critical of the change, and the official Insomniac account has been pulled out repeatedly to explain why things turned out the way they did.
Whether this will turn out to be a storm in a glass of water remains to be seen, as no one has actually played Spider-Man Remastered yet. The new version will be released as part of Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on November 19, the same day as PlayStation 5.
