should Spider-Man: No Way Home just appear in worldwide cinemas in mid-December and the screens are sufficiently open, then a huge monster score is expected. The opening weekend in the States seems to be getting old-fashioned.
A North American opening weekend of $100 million or more was the most natural thing in the world pre-corona, but post-corona is very different.
No film managed to exceed that limit and the highest total score in the States did not exceed about $225 million, raised by the Marvel film. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Monster opening for Spider-Man: No Way Home
According to Box Office Pro, Spider-Man: No Way Home should be able to land on premiere weekends from $135 to $185 million. The total score could be somewhere between $375 and $525 million in North America alone. The Sony Pictures film will of course perform optimally during the Christmas period.
The biggest competition is the third solo film about Spider-Man in West Side Story on Nightmare Alley, although they seem to target a different audience. The R-rated movies The Matrix Resurrections on The King’s Man focus largely on the same moviegoers.
In other parts of the world, the film will be affected by 2G-like rules that will not allow unvaccinated from the target group into cinemas.
