Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Dominates 2024 Annie Awards

In a night filled with excitement and celebration, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse emerged as the big winner at the 2024 Annie Awards. The Sony Pictures Animation film took home an impressive seven awards, including the coveted prize for Best Feature.

The Annie Awards, presented by the International Animated Film Society ASIFA-Hollywood, honor the best in animation from the past year. Other films that received multiple awards include Nimona and The Boy and the Heron, both of which were nominated for several categories.

These three films, along with Elemental and Robot Dreams, have also been nominated for the prestigious Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Interestingly, Elemental, despite being nominated for six awards, did not win any at the Annie Awards.

In the realm of animated shorts, War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko took home the Annie award for Best Short Subject. This Oscar-nominated short is a testament to the power of music and its ability to inspire and move audiences.

Turning our attention to television, Blue Eye Samurai emerged as the top winner with six awards. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Star Wars: Visions also received recognition, winning three and two prizes respectively.

The 51st Annie Awards took place at UCLA’s Royce Hall, a prestigious venue befitting the occasion. The event also saw the presentation of Winsor McCay Awards for career achievement to animator-director Charlotte “Lotte” Reiniger (posthumous), Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi, and National Film Board animator and producer Marcy Page.

In addition to the film and television categories, special achievement awards were given to the Artists of Walt Disney Animation, BRIC Foundation co-founders Alison Mann and Nicole Hendrix, and John Oxberry for technical achievement.
