Elmo Lieftink made the sensitive switch from Go Ahead Eagles to De Graafschap. On Tuesday evening he returns to De Adelaarshorst, but the bare decor hurts him.
Lieftink honestly indicates that in the run-up to the derby against Go Ahead, he no longer paid attention to his words. “Come on, it’s not all that exciting,” he says in conversation De Gelderlander. “And now, in such an empty stadium, I don’t have to be afraid of flute concerts”, he says with a wink.
Lieftink’s switch from Go Ahead to De Graafschap did not go well for everyone. His two brothers are avid Go Ahead supporters, the eldest is a season ticket holder. “He also had a hard time with my switch”, Lieftink continues. And with him more supporters. Not everyone appreciated my choice. It’s a shame, because Eagles didn’t offer me a new contract themselves. Somehow I understand the emotions too. The fact that I chose De Graafschap of all people caused disappointment.
It causes mixed feelings for Lieftink. “I would have preferred to leave Go Ahead in a different way. But I had a good time at the club. I still have good contact with some players.”
