Magomed Ramazanov, the first Olympic champion in the history of Veliko Tarnovo, will be nominated for the title “Honorary Citizen”.
His coach Miroslav Kolev was nominated for the Veliko Tarnovo Award. Leading municipal councilors, businessmen and intellectuals from the old capital gathered around this, “Borba” informed, also revealing spicy details about Magomed.
At the suggestion of four local parliamentarians – Stilyan Naydenov, Georgi Markov, Momchil Ivanov and Yordan Svrakov, he and the other participant in the Paris Games from the old capital, Lyubomir Epitropov, were financially rewarded by the local treasury to support their participation in the Olympics.
Ramazanov and his coach Kolev returned today from Paris, and this week they will also be in Veliko Tarnovo, after which the wrestler returns to Astrakhan (Russia), where his wife and their newborn daughter are waiting for him.
For the first time in its history, Veliko Tarnovo has an Olympic champion. Magomed Ramazanov brought a title to Bulgaria and the old capital city. The last Bulgarian Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling was from Atlanta 1996 – the legend Valentin Yordanov in the category up to 52 kg, and Ramazanov is the first since then to be a finalist in this style among men for our country.
“We are happy! Thank you all for the congratulations! Magomed will certainly stay in Veliko Tarnovo,” informed Miroslav Kolev.
Magomed Ramazanov was born on May 22, 1993 in the village of Oktyabarskoe, Khasavyurtovsky District, Dagestan, which is part of Russia.
In 2019, he won the world cup as a national team of Russia, he was second and third in European championships. He has been a resident of Veliko Tarnovo since October last year, as is his brother Ramazan Ramazanov.
Magomed’s decision to compete for Bulgaria came after the Romanian Wrestling Federation failed to naturalize him for more than two years.
