The Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society (SPH) welcomed the award of Lot X, the most important in northeastern Peru, as it will allow the continuity of oil production in said area of the country.
It should be noted that Perupetro today awarded the contract for the aforementioned oil lot to the consortium made up of the companies Offshore International Group (USA), Aguaytía Energy del Perú and Termoselva (Peru).
In this regard, Felipe Cantuarias, president of the SPH, considered it positive that the bidding process for a lot that represents 70% of the oil production in the northeast of the country with approximately 10,000 barrels per day has been carried out.
“As a business union we always ask the State to generate a climate of stability for investments, so that oil production can recover and we can supply our internal demand. In this way we will depend less and less on the import of crude oil,” commented the union leader.
In that sense, Cantuarias maintained that there are urgent reforms that the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) must lead to recover the competitiveness of the hydrocarbon sector and reactivate investment in exploration, which requires updating the royalty system, reducing paperwork, as well as promoting private investment, measures that will contribute to the predictability of investments.
“The 33 million Peruvians must benefit from cleaner and cheaper energy. To achieve this, it is urgent to implement reforms that boost the hydrocarbon sector, which has been postponed for years, and that lead us to the energy transition,” Cantuarias concluded.
