Speedway: Sparta Wrocław has been waiting for Artiom Łaguta for two years. They accepted the transfer

On Sunday it was confirmed that the decision to bring in Artiom Łaguta and Greg Hancock and leave Gleb Chugunov and Daniel Bewley in the squad was a bull’s eye. The happy president of Sparta, Andrzej Rusko, on nSport + revealed a bit of the backstage of Artiom Łaguta’s transfer.

– We built this team for a very long time and we carefully selected each new player for the team. The effect is that Sparta is not only a good team, but above all a group of friends. They compete in the Grand Prix, but during PGE Ekstraliga matches they reveal their secrets and help. We waited for Artiom Łaguta for two years. It wasn’t an accidental transfer. Earlier, this move was approved by Maciej Janowski and Tai Woffinden. I introduced them to two candidates for our team and they indicated who they wanted to go with. Now it does not make sense to say who the other speedway rider was – said Andrzej Rusko with a smile, and it is known that in recent years the residents of Wrocław have been very keen on, for example, a Motor Lublin rider … Mikkel Michelsen and it is quite possible that this was the Dane ” rival of “Laguta to a place in the Sparta squad.

However, the transfer of the Russian carried some risk, because another star could have a negative effect on the atmosphere in Sparta. Therefore, the inhabitants of Wrocław decided to protect themselves in such an accident. – But I was afraid that something might not play. Artiom came from a team in which he was only required to score points, but it is different for us, because what counts is the team’s points and mutual help. We wondered who could be the authority on these speedway riders and that’s where Greg Hancock came out. He was an authority for the best, but at the same time he accelerated the development of Daniel Bewley and Gleb Chugunov by at least two years. In addition, Sparta has support from experienced teams of each of our leading players, we must mention Jacek Trojanowski, Rafał Haj and Rafał Lewicki – said Rusko.

After that, it was time for a personal reflection of one of the best speedway activists in recent years.

– Perhaps in the 90s I committed the sin of pride. Then the medals came one after the other, and I started dreaming about an individual world championship and ignored the importance of the medal in the Polish championship a bit. For this reason, the next chances were running out and the road to the title turned out to be longer than I thought – added the president of the Wrocław club.
