The Speech from the Throne on Prinsjesdag will be delivered in the coming years in the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague. That’s what the President of the Senate Jan Anthonie Bruijn has decided in consultation with President of the House of Representatives Vera Bergkamp.
Due to the renovation of the Binnenhof complex, we are moving to the theater a few hundred meters away.
The Koninklijke Schouwburg has room for about 800 people, about as many as can fit in the Ridderzaal. It is still being looked at exactly how the hall will look like on the day of the Speech from the Throne.
Now there is a podium and it is still unclear whether it will be demolished. It is known, however, that chairs are removed from the Ridderzaal for the guests and that the throne will also be placed in the theatre.
Big church
Due to the corona pandemic, the past two editions did not take place in the Ridderzaal as usual, but in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. There was more room to maintain the one and a half meter rule.
