Speculation Surrounding Ramzan Kadyrov’s Health and Possible Involvement of Poisoning

As Dagbladet mentioned this weekend, there is speculation as to whether Kadyrov may be admitted to a hospital in Moscow. Outside the hospital, which is used by Russia’s political elites, several Chechen-registered cars have been observed, which it is claimed can be linked to Kadyrov’s inner circle and administration.

The online newspaper Obozrevatel, which is run by a Ukrainian politician, quoted intelligence sources on Sunday as saying that Kadyrov’s health has deteriorated in a Moscow hospital and that he may be transferred to specialists in the United Arab Emirates.

Ukrainian intelligence also claims that Kadyrov is seriously ill and that he is in a coma.

Last in the line of speculation comes Oleksiy Danilov, head of Ukraine’s National Security Council. He claims Kadyrov may have been poisoned.

– That Kadyrov has health problems is widely known. However, it can be assumed that it is due to poisoning, and repeated poisoning, which has led to complications with the kidneys, Danilov said on Ukrainian television earlier this week, according to Ukrainian Pravda.

He goes on to say that it could all be part of internal problems in the Kremlin’s power struggle.

– Given the influence he has had, and continues to have, on Russian processes, he has ended up in this situation, says Danilov further, according to the newspaper.

Speculation for a long time

Kadyrov, who is also referred to as “Putin’s bloodhound”, is a close ally of Russia’s Vladimir Putin. It was Putin who appointed him leader of Chechnya in 2007.

Officially, there has been little information about Kadyrov’s illness. Rumors that he is struggling with kidney failure have been circulating for several months.

The German newspaper Bild already reported in March that Chechnya’s former deputy prime minister Ahmed Zakajev claimed Kadyrov was suffering from kidney problems.

Also in June, it was alleged that Ramzan Kadyrov was seriously ill.

– Wonderfully refreshing

After the speculation gained momentum at the weekend, a video was published on the dictator’s own Telegram channel on Sunday, in which he apparently hits back at the allegations.

Out for a walk, he says the following:

– I would strongly recommend anyone who cannot distinguish truth from lies on the internet to take a walk outside in the fresh air and get all their thoughts in order. The rain is wonderfully refreshing.

– The Russians are deeply concerned

Unknown

It has not been possible to establish where and when the video was filmed.

– As far as we know, it is not possible to say whether the video was recorded now, or whether this is an older video that has nothing to do with today, says Danilov.

Half an hour after Kadyrov’s Telegram video was posted, exiled Chechen activist Abubakar Jangulbaev posted a terse message on Telegram claiming that Ramzan Kadyrov is dead.

Ramzan Kadyrov has ruled Chechnya with an iron fist since 2007. Kadyrov and his regime are linked to very extensive human rights violations.

His private army, popularly called the Kadyrovites, has been actively fighting in Putin’s full-scale war of invasion in Ukraine. Among other things, they have been active during the Russian siege of the now bombed city of Mariupol on the Black Sea.
