Speculating on Samwise Didier’s Departure from Blizzard Entertainment: Impact, Reasons, and Future

I do have some reservations about that, and I don’t actually suspect that this is the (main) reason. Why else stay with the ‘new’ Blizzard for years. After all, the majority of veterans left much faster when Activision Blizzard started tightening the thumbscrews, and Samwise was certainly in a position, if he really did not feel at home with Bobby’s course, to resign much earlier.

In that respect, I find the moment of departure striking, as the reins now seem to be loosening somewhat as a result of the Microsoft deal that has now been completed. Could he possibly not want to continue under Microsoft? After all, if you could not agree with the Kotick policy or, for example, with the controversy surrounding working conditions, you would normally have been away for years. Especially someone like Samwise who can easily start working at another studio, or even outside the industry, will be working in his field in no time.

Regardless, this will certainly be a loss for Blizzard, where the art division has regularly had to pull the coals out of the fire when another department did not deliver.
