Rob starts the special concert with songs like “I leave you free” and “Everig young”. He is then assisted by artist friends such as Paskal Jakobsen, Waylon, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Claudia de Breij, Sanne Wallis de Vries and Danny Vera, all of whom have nice words for the Parkinson-suffering singer.
The concert impresses not only the artists and people in the hall, but also the people who are watching it now. Some even shed a tear, just like Rob himself on stage. ‘Wow… tears already’, wrote someone at the beginning of the performance. ‘A lump in my throat and tears in my eyes…since 1985 I have attended all the concerts in Nijmegen with my mother. Straight into my heart,” a fan shared.
The retired singer’s health continues to deteriorate. “I can’t take a step now,” says Rob de Nijs in a previous interview with Private. Despite Parkinson’s disease, he says he’s fine. “It’s no different. I have that disease and it goes from bad to worse. Never again a little better. This can make you sad and often we are, but you shouldn’t think too much about it and see what you see it can do instead.”
Rob hasn’t sung since the concert. “I didn’t sing after that, no. But the black hole that everyone was so afraid of didn’t materialize. It’s not for nothing that my latest album is called: It was nice.”
