We’ve seen it before, and we got to see it again. Once again, a spectator stood close to the cyclists and “pushed” a rider over the end.

This led to another huge collapse. Replays of the situation show a spectator stretching out an arm to take a picture of the riders. The outstretched arm hit Jumbo-Visma rider Sepp Kuss at full speed.

– If you are going to see a bicycle race, stay away from the asphalt, is Discovery commentator Andreas Staune-Mittet’s plea to the people.

Kuss toppled into the field and took a majority of riders with him in the fall. Teammate Nathan Van Hooydonck seemed to get the worst of it. Ineos rider Egan Bernal also went down.

Two Uno-X riders were also involved in the rollover, but everyone seems to have been fine and everyone is back on the bike. Most of the riders managed to stop when the accident happened.

On Twitter, Ineos Grenadiers make the same request as Staune-Mittet.

“If you’re watching this amazing ride – please give the riders room to ride,” the team wrote.

During this year’s edition of the Tour de France, several of the biggest stars have warned the spectators not to get too close to the riders.

On both the 8th and 9th stages there were accidents between cyclists and spectators.

– Many people place their tables or take their children too far out into the road, and that is extremely dangerous. I don’t know what people think about when they do that, said general manager Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo–Visma).

Steff Cras (TotalEnergies), who collided with a spectator and later had to retire, took to Twitter to vent his frustration.

– When a spectator moves out into the road and does not move when the main field arrives, that person should rather just stay at home. You have no respect for us riders. I hope you feel guilty, he wrote.

During the 2021 edition of the Tour de France, a woman was arrested and sued by the organizer after being blamed for a mass overturn. The lawsuit was later withdrawn.
