Spectator out of danger after serious collision with rider during Tour

Tour of Flanders

A spectator was seriously injured in a collision with a rider. The young woman was taken to Ronse hospital, but is out of danger. One rider was forced to give up.

There was great nervousness in the peloton during the Tour of Flanders and that led to a few crashes. Some riders crashed on the Hotond, among other places, but the biggest victim was a young woman along the road. She came into serious contact with one or more riders. The spectator was seriously injured and was taken to hospital in Ronse. According to the latest reports, she is said to be conscious and not in a life-threatening condition.

The riders involved in the crash were Guillaume Boivin (Israel-Premier Tech), Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), William Blume Levy (Uno-X), Nico Denz (Bora-Hansgrohe), and Floris De Tier (Bingoal WB). Boivin was forced to give up.

The crash at the Hotond was not the only one in which spectators were involved, because a little later there was another fall on a wide track where the public was close to the riders. Cees Bol (Astana) hooked into a spectator, fell and took Brent Van Moer (Lotto-Dstny), Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) and Alessandro Covi (UAE Team Emirates) with him in his crash.
