The U18 team of Feyenoord on Ajax faced each other at Varkenoord on Saturday afternoon. The mini-Classic had a spectacular climax: Feyenoord goalkeeper Mannou Berger became the hero of the afternoon by stopping a penalty in injury time and thus saving a point for the Rotterdam team.
Both teams split the goals evenly in an even game. Nesto Groen opened the score on behalf of Feyenoord by scoring from a corner, Eskild Munk Dall equalized not long after: 1-1 at half time. Jaden Slory – son of former professional Andwélé Slory – helped Feyenoord to a new lead just after the start of the second half. The answer from Ajax was again not long in coming: Yoram Boerhout completed the 2-2 after an hour.
In the very last minute of regular time, the mini-Classic took a dramatic turn. Substitute Jeppe Kjaer entered the penalty area and went over the leg of Feyenoord defender Paris Elmensdorp. The Dane himself took his place behind the ball, but Berger saved his penalty and ensured that the 2-2 remained on the board.
The images of the penalty moment can be seen from 1.54.18. Incidentally, the U17 teams of Ajax and Feyenoord are simultaneously busy with a mutual match at De Toekomst.
