Jakarta –
The first Daihatsu Taft Reborn launched in Japan in June 2020. In the land of Sakura, Taft targets active consumers regardless of age. Daihatsu designed the Taft as a vehicle that is suitable for accompanying daily activities.
Like most Kei Cars in Japan, the Taft is offered with a 660cc Naturally Aspirated three-cylinder engine and a Turbo Charger. Both engines are paired with a CVT transmission. There are two wheel drive systems offered, namely 2 Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel Drive.
Taft is built on the DNGA platform just like Tanto. This makes Taft lighter and stiffer. Taft’s total length is just 3,395 mm, width is 1,475 mm and height is 1,630 mm. Meanwhile, the ground clearance is at 190 mm.

Even so, Daihatsu claims Taft has ample space in the interior. Especially when the back seat is folded and flush with the floor, the rider can carry a lot of stuff in it. Driving comfort is offered by Taft Reborn through a quieter cabin.
Under the hood, Daihatsu pinned a KF-coded engine with an inline 3-cylinder configuration. This engine has a capacity of 658 cc and is claimed to be efficient at 20 to 25 km per liter. The engine is also believed to be able to spit out 64 PS of power and 100 Nm of torque for the turbo variant. As for the Naturally Aspirated engine, it only produces 52 PS and 60 Nm of torque.
The features in it are quite complete. Taft Reborn is equipped with Daihatsu Smart Assist which consists of Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Control, Roadside Deviation Warning Function, Collision Damage Mitigation Brake, Acceleration Suppression Device, Lane Departure Warning, to Advanced Light/
Then for safety features there are ABS + EBD brake systems, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, and Total Advanced Function (TAF) Body.
Not to forget the prices offered are also affordable. There are six types of Daihatsu Taft Reborn offered in Japan with the lowest price tag of 1,353,000 yen to 1,732,500 yen. If converted to the current exchange rate (1 yen: Rp. 114.68), the price of the Daihatsu Taft is the cheapest at Rp. 155 million to the most expensive at Rp. 198 million.
However, PT Astra Daihatsu Motor as the Agent for the Brand Holder (APM) of Daihatsu in Indonesia has not given any signals to bring Taft Reborn to Indonesia.
But those who want Taft Reborn don’t need to worry. The reason is that the car which is classified as a kei car in Japan can already be owned by ordering through a general importer of Safari Motor by preparing a down payment of around Rp. 300 million.
