Specific references to the projects, actions and interventions carried out by the Region of Epirus during the current term of office of the current Regional Authority in P.E. Artas and the presentation of the basic implementable planning of the next self-governing period was made by the current and re-candidate Regional Mayor, Mr. Alexandros Kahrimanis, during the presentation of the candidates of “Living Epirus Development” last night in Arta.
“We are here to talk about our work, to share with you what they have planned,” Mr. Al emphasized starting his speech. Kahrimanis, who underlined that the Region of Epirus responded to the needs of the Regional Unit of Arta, advanced many large projects and has already planned new ones.
«The Region of Epirus has done enough. However, it cannot satisfy all the needs and requirements that exist either from Municipalities or from other agencies. There are statutory responsibilities, there are financial limits and possibilities”, he mentioned at another point in his speech, going on to outline some of the sector-by-sector interventions that have been made so far.

Briefly, he referred to the large program of construction projects for sewage networks and biological cleanings that are being completed, to the improvements of the road network and the construction of new road junctions, to the extensive modernization projects of TOEB, the preservation and promotion of cultural monuments (Moni Seltsou, I. N. Parhigoretrias – for which the study was prepared and presented – Imaret which already has a contractor), the construction of the Composting Unit etc.
He referred to the interventions made for anti-flood protection, with the cleaning of streams using portable materials, as well as the ongoing study for the Bousi stream, while he also highlighted the huge costs borne by the Region for the restoration of damages caused by severe weather events.
He emphasized the Region’s contribution to strengthening the extroversion of Arta’s agricultural products, through the Region’s participation in major exhibitions abroad, in supporting businesses during the corona virus period, in supporting the hospital with equipment, etc.
The plan for the next term
“Not everything that we would like, everything that Arta needs was done. But we tried, we succeeded in many things, we continue for even more”, emphasized the Regional Governor and once again Candidate Regional Governor setting the next goals of the next term of the Regional Authority, which among others are:
- The completion of ongoing road, land improvement, environmental projects and the construction of new ones.
- The implementation of the program for the “Restoration of lagoons P.E. Artas, which has a budget of 15.8 million euros (we await the approval of the proposal).
- The preservation highlights the cultural monuments, with Parigoritissa and the historic bridge leading the way.
- The certification as a Geographical Indication Product of the kiwifruit of Arta, but also of the catches of Amvrakikos.
- The restoration – promotion – exploitation of the abandoned today Forest village of Katarrakti, which was undertaken a few months ago by the Region.
- The creation of new tourist infrastructure, such as the extension of paths.
- The construction of the new Headquarters in the “Papakosta” camp, which has been delayed to some extent due to the complex procedures that existed with TETHA.
- Improvement of the provincial road Rodavgi – Plaka Bridge (a part of it has already been auctioned with a budget of €1,000,000)
“I left for last perhaps the biggest problem that Arta faces. Its anti-flood protection. As for the Bousi stream, the Region is preparing a relevant study.
But the most serious is the demarcation of Arachthos. It is a matter handled by the Ministry of Infrastructure. And as has happened with other studies he had undertaken, such as the connection of the Ionian road with Preveza, this too is cancerous. The tragic events in Thessaly send a message and the Ministry must quickly proceed with the study, so that the money can then be found. And we reminded them of this with our recent document”, emphasized the Regional Governor to complete:.
“I could list dozens of other projects. But you don’t need to. Most of them you know, hundreds of workers and farmers are already using them.” continue and concluding, the current and re-candidate Regional Governor expressed his confidence in the renewal of the trust of the residents of P.E.
