A special 99-piece edition for the BMW M850i Gran Coupé was presented on the occasion of the Frieze trade fair in Los Angeles. The eight-cylinder four-door coupe from the M Performance division has a body and interior decorated in the style of comics.

“The curves of the car widen from the bonnet to the boot and create a forward feeling, as do the ‘POP!’ Design elements. and a graphical representation of the power of the discharged steam. The blue color is reminiscent of a vast universe and I like the idea that it is a global car, ”says artist Jeff Koons about his work.

The distinctive and striking design combines eleven different exterior colors from blue through silver to yellow and black.

The carmaker states that “highly specialized experts in the Dingolfing and Landshut factories spent more than 200 hours working by hand on the exterior paintwork, and the paint samples were often applied with magnifying glasses”.

The colorful interior consists of top materials, soft leather and drink holders with the edition and signature of the author. The seats are a distinctive red and blue color, which reflect the colors of the superheroes from the comic book universe and also the tricolor of the BMW M division.

“It’s a ‘moving statue’ that will not only be on display as a sought-after collector’s exhibit in museums, but will also delight the roads like a real BMW,” says Oliver Zipse, BMW’s Chairman of the Board.

It suggests that these cars are actually for sale, even for those interested in the Czech Republic. BMW values one such at CZK 9,360,000.

It is not clear what equipment is already in the edition, in any case the default and technically identical BMW M850i xDrive GranCoupé is available on the domestic market from 3,368,300 crowns, which is almost 6 million less. However, the art edition is a collector’s item, the real price of which, as always, is determined by time.
