As part of the 37th Region Discovery Day on 8 September:
Special tours of the museums and the post mill
On Sunday, September 8th, the VVV is taking part in the 37th Discovery Day of the Hanover Region. The City Museum (Schmiedestraße 6) and the KulturWerkStadt (Poststraße 2) as well as the Sorgenser Bockwindmühle are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for locals and visitors from all over the region.
An exhibition by the Burgdorf Cycling Gallery entitled “Speed - fast bicycles” is on display in the town museum. It gives an overview of the development of cycling and has some special exhibits. Who can imagine having to take part in a cycling race on a high wheel today? What influence does the material of a bicycle have on the race’s success? How did the technical development towards ever faster two-wheelers proceed? The organizer of the exhibition, Gerhard Rickert, will report on this at 2.30 p.m. as part of a free guided tour.
The science fiction exhibition: “STAR TREK • STARGATE • STAR WARS — interlocking bricks, plastic worlds and figurines” is the focus of the KulturWerkStadt. The show was put together by the Star Trek Club Hannover. Visitors will see numerous figures and spaceship models made from interlocking bricks, which come from science fiction and fantasy films and series or are based on computer games and comics. The club members will be there all afternoon and will provide further information about the objects on display. At 2.30 p.m. the Star Trek Club invites you to a guided tour of the show.
In addition, as part of the Germany-wide “Day of Open Monuments” taking place at the same time, the Sorgenser post mill will also be open to visitors to the region’s discovery day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The technical monument, which was built in 1686 and has been restored several times, remains as the last remaining witness to the mill culture that once comprised more than 15 systems in the Burgdorf area. It was in operation for two and a half centuries and is located on the Otzer Landstrasse, where it can be seen from far away. If required, free tours are offered by the VVV post mill working group.
