A new era in relations is being ushered in, said US President Biden in Washington after a two-day special summit. The goals are growth, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific region – including respect for the rule of law and human rights.

Earlier, the US government announced new initiatives and projects with Asean worth around $150 million. Referring to Ukraine, the heads of state and government reaffirmed the country’s “respect for sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity”.

Asean is actually made up of ten countries, including Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. However, representatives of Myanmar had not been invited to Washington because of the military coup there.
