Special session of Parliament: Congress issued whip, asked its MPs to be present in the House

New Delhi. Congress has issued a whip to its Rajya Sabha members to remain present in the House for the five-day special session of Parliament starting from September 18. In the whip issued to its members in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress said, ‘Very important issues will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha during this special session.’

This three-line whip states, “All members of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha are requested to remain present during the proceedings of the House from September 18 to September 22, 2023 and support the party’s stand.” A similar whip has been issued for all the Congress members in the Lok Sabha.

The special session of Parliament will start from September 18 and will continue till September 22. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, after announcing the agenda of the special session of Parliament, had said on Wednesday that the topics included in it could have waited for the winter session also. He said he was sure there was something else going on behind the scenes.

According to the bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Wednesday, during the five-day special session, the 75 years of Parliament’s journey, achievements, experiences, memories and lessons from the Constituent Assembly till today will be discussed. Apart from this discussion, four bills are also mentioned in it.

The bulletin said that during this session, the Advocates Amendment Bill 2023 and the Press and Periodical Registration Bill 2023 are listed which have been passed by the Rajya Sabha and are pending in the Lok Sabha. At the same time, Post Office Bill 2023 and Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners, Service Conditions Bill 2023 are also listed.
