The coalition factions have requested a joint special meeting, as the domestic policy spokesman for the SPD faction, Albrecht Pallas (40), announced on Monday.

One had to clarify as soon as possible why the meeting in Leipzig could get out of hand.

The Left had previously requested a special meeting of the Interior Committee.

From Pallas’s point of view, there are a number of questions about the demo Saturday that need to be clarified. The explosiveness of the rally was known after previous events in Berlin and Dresden. Therefore the question arises how the deployment of Leipzig was prepared after these experiences.

According to the police, at least 20,000 “lateral thinkers” gathered in Leipzig on Augustusplatz on Saturday, and the “Counted Through” initiative estimated the total at 45,000.

The Higher Administrative Court in Bautzen had allowed the rally in the city center, but only with 16,000 participants. After the rally was disbanded, people also forced a walk across the Leipziger Ring.
