Also this week, the jury is in the dark with the masked candidates. The Ladybug blows them away with her opening night. Big names such as comedian Karin Bloemen and opera singer Francis van Broekhuizen are reviewed.
Children’s hospitals of Orange
But besides the regular masked enigmas, there are also guest appearances this season. That’s how it came before Gert and Viktor Verhulst as parrots rocked the stage and artists Jamie Westland and Frans van Zoest amazed the jury as ‘Monstertjes’. But the guests don’t just dress up in the very heavy suit.
In front of RTL Project Smile and Children’s Hospitals of Orange they want to raise as much money as possible for research and projects that contribute to reducing fear, pain and stress in children who are treated annually in one of children’s hospitals.
Surprising guest appearance
This week the jury is assisted by expert guest judges. Singer Samantha Steenwijk, formerMasked Singer-chameleon, and radio DJ Mattie Valk (former Masked Singerastronaut) join forces with the permanent jury. Mattie Valk’s reason for taking part is clear: “As a child you should not be sick in the first place. And if fate strikes you anyway, let’s make it as bearable as possible together.”
As guest appearance, IJsje and Cupcake pose many questions to the jury. At least one thing is clear to Samantha Steenwijk about Cupcake: “A tall slender lady.” But which duo will be on stage anyway? Thanks to the hints, it becomes clear that they have known each other for a long time and are not unfamiliar with a police cap. Ellie Lust is called or maybe Angela Schijf?
After their interpretation of The Time of My Life the jury is still puzzled. “When I see them like that, I actually want it to be Janny and Robèrt,” admits Samantha. “It could also be something like father-daughter”, thinks jury member Loretta Schrijver aloud.
Standing ovation
Team Buddy Vedder, Gerard Joling and Mattie Valk are completely convinced. “We are one hundred percent sure,” says the radio DJ. “We saw the police cap; the fashion police. The video talked about lightning: it thunders and it lightning.” Without a doubt they go for singer Guus Meeuwis and stylist Manon Meijers.
The time has come for Ice Cream and Cupcake to reveal themselves. As the masks slowly go off, Mattie reiterates how confident he is in his analysis. And he is also right: Guus Meeuwis and Manon Meijers emerge from under the Ice Cream and the Cupcake.
A standing ovation follows, whereupon presenter Ruben Nicolai asks Manon whether this is worth repeating? “If I can wear this suit”, she responds with a laugh. “I think it’s great to draw attention to such a beautiful project in this way. It’s a shame it’s over,” says Guus. “We actually hope it fits in the car and we can take it with us for carnival,” his lover agrees.
