Köthen (dpa / sa) – A new special exhibition on the founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), is to be seen next year in Köthen (Anhalt-Bitterfeld district). The show under the motto “1821 – Hahnemann in Köthen medicine, homeopathy and city” will be presented from June 13 to November 29, 2021 in the city’s castle, said Ilka Hillger from “Köthen Culture and Marketing GmbH” of the German press agency . According to the information, homeopathy is an alternative medical treatment method developed by Hahnemann from 1796 onwards, in which healing active ingredients are heavily diluted.
“It’s about the life and work of Hahnemann in his time in Koethen from 1821 to 1835”, Hillger continued. On display are personal items, including his bed as well as documents on Hahnemann’s work and life in Köthen.
Hahnemann, who studied doctor, led an unsettled life. He lived in Koethen for many years. Here he was the personal physician of Duke Friedrich Ferdinand von Anhalt-Köthen (1769-1830) and wrote some of his important works on homeopathy. Today the Köthen house is looked after by an association and is partially open to the public.
This year’s special exhibition, which was dedicated to the historic Köthen Castle Park, attracted around 3,200 visitors in the four months until the pandemic-related closure, it said. Prepared birds, archaeological finds, photos, documents and drawings were shown.
