Antoine Schmitt

Installation artist. Creating artworks in the form of objects, installations and situations that illustrate processes of movement in all forms and question conceptual questions of their inherent plastic, philosophical or social nature. As a successor to kinetic and cybernetic art, nourished by metaphysical science fiction, he endlessly questions the dynamic interaction between human nature and the nature of reality.

Originally a programming engineer in the fields of human-machine relations and artificial intelligence, he uses programming as a contemporary artistic material, unique for its active qualities, placed at the heart of most artworks to reveal and actually manipulate dangerous forces. Antoine Schmitt also combined this approach with more established artistic fields such as music, dance, architecture, literature or film, and collaborated with Franck Vigroux, Atau Tanaka, Vincent Epplay, Jean-Jacques Birgé, Delphine Doukhan, K.Danse, Patrice Belin, Don Nino, Cubenx, Alberto Sorbelli, Matthew Bourne…

As theorist, speaker and editor of the grain.org portal, Antoine Schmitt explores the field of procedural art.

“The Rising Tide”

Tide is a natural phenomenon that occurs in coastal areas. It refers to the periodic movement of sea water caused by the tidal force of celestial bodies (mainly the moon and the sun). It is customary to refer to the vertical rise and fall of the sea surface as tides, while the horizontal flow of sea water is called tidal current. In order to indicate the time of tide, human ancestors called the high tide that occurred in the morning a tide and the high tide that occurred in the evening. This is where the tide gets its name.

Special Audio Visual Show

Rising Tide, a new media audio-visual scene designed to reference the tidal phenomenon, advances layer by layer over time, creating a multi-dimensional experience like a tidal wave. Like a romance, long and romantic.
