During this visit, Stefančuk plans to visit not only Strasbourg but also several other European cities to try to persuade their politicians to start the accession negotiations with Ukraine.
It is not yet clear whether the European Commission will give a positive opinion on Ukraine’s application for membership of the European Union and how the leaders of the 27 current Member States will react.
It is also unclear what will happen to the applications from Moldova and Georgia. It is possible that Ukraine could get the status of a potential candidate first.
“Currently, 91% of Ukrainians support membership in the European Union. This is an unprecedented figure. I don’t even think that you will find such fanatical support in any other country that wants to join the European Union, “Stefančuk emphasizes.
“This is because our people are now sacrificing their lives and what they own to defend the values and principles that are essential to every European and to the unification of Europe.”
